Had to set the alarm this morning – our bags had to ready to go to the Viking Jupiter by 6:30. That wasn’t hard, neither was another good breakfast at the Nobu Hotel.  Actually, nothing was hard at all today!  We boarded a Viking bus for a 3 hour tour of Barcelona.  We drove around the city noting the this and the that and the who and the when.  Got a couple of good pictures of the Arch, the Mammoth and the city from Mount Juic.  Then on to the ship.

The Viking Jupiter is one of the newer ships in the Viking fleet.  (For deets see the Viking web site.). For us in cabins 5012 and 5010, it is very nice.  After checking in (painless), we ate at the World café, a very complete buffet – with steamship rounds, grilled salmon, stir fry chicken, and on and on and on – oh yeah – did I mention Gelato?

Our cabin was ready by 2 and our luggage was just outside the room.  And this is the great thing about cruises – we unpack and don’t have to repack for 3 weeks!  The cabin is bigger than the suite on the Riverboat and we have adjoining verandas.

At 4:30 there is a port talk – where the cruise director and the shore excursion person layout the data on where we are and what we can do tomorrow.  Always informative and gives us the leg up on the hoi polloi.  Today we learned that Barcelona was named after the Carthaginian General Hannibal’s dad, Barca.

After the lecture we sorted out tomorrow’s adventure while listening to a duet of Violin and Cello playing the familiar classical tunes in the Atrium.  Then we ate at the Restaurant (the main dining facility) and had a sit down dinner of local fare (tapas, paella and Catalonian custard).  We followed this up with a relaxing after dinner drink in the Explorer’s lounge.

Only 9736 steps today, but they were quality steps in a quality city and a quality ship.
