Ann and Paul’s brother is 80 years old today 😊 We skyped with him and sang happy birthday and requested that he do a few more projects. (What are little brothers and sisters for?).
We are 6 degrees North today at noon. We were 14 degrees North yesterday at noon. We will cross the equator between 7 And 8 tomorrow night and there is some sort of ceremony tomorrow around 11 tomorrow. The wind shifted coming from the east and blowing in a bit or spotty rain around 11. We see the rain clouds here and there across the horizon very clearly as there is nothing to block our views. Interesting to see the water cycle at work here in the biggest amount of water any of us has ever seen.
Found out that flying fish are about 12” long on average. From deck 5, they look like dragon flies. Perspective is hard to judge – like the swells being 7’ – or the rain miles distant.
So, we have another sea day which means lots of activity. 5 lectures ranging from Exoplanets to life on a submarine to the Falklands war to animal migration were offered – and attended . We are going to be so good at trivia when we get back – but then, only if someone asks. We know when we get back and someone asks about our trip, they don’t really want to know how long a flying fish is. (But if they do, we have the answer 😎)
Line dancing was fun – the group gets bigger and bigger spilling out into the hallways. Shirley is taking notes on the steps which can be mixed and matched in many ways. The names of the moves are fun too – there is the bounce-bounce, the kiss-kiss, the shampoo-conditioner, the change the light bulb, the John Travolta, the drive the car-change the gear, the snake arms, the teapot and on and on. The instructor is ultra-bouncy and makes it fun for everyone old, young, coordinated and not.
Shirley promised to write up the art class, so watch for it in a post to come.
and then there is this:
