We arose to unexpected clear skies above and very windy. Still doing approximately 18 knots into a headwind. On the early promenade the port side was very windy – very windy. Paul took a 6-minute video of 1 lap around the quarter mile jogging track this morning. We may post that when we get back into the Gigabit Internet. Bob, Anna and Paul were up on the Explorer’s Lounge having a coffee and spotted the coast around 6:30 AM. At 8 we were still 100 KM east of Rio.
Our new cruise schedule is as follows:
· Saturday 11/26 docked at Rio de Janeiro
· Sunday 11/27 docked at Rio de Janeiro
· Monday 11/28 at sea
· Tuesday 11/29 at sea
· Wednesday 11/30 docked at Buenos Aires
· Thursday 12/1 docked at Buenos Aires, disembark, catch plane home
· Friday 12/2 Paul and Shirley arrive in Atlanta at 5:45 AM, Bob and Ann arrive in Minneapolis @ 2PM
We have a space travel lecture and art at 9:15, port talk at 10:45, welcome band at 1 PM. We are hoping to be able to go into town this afternoon. We will see what the port talk has to offer.
Just out of the Port Talk where we learned the drill. Today we will dock in a tourist / museum area so we intend to do a walk about whenever we are permitted off the ship. The weather is good today and iffy tomorrow. The tour operators have been scrambling to get us accommodated. It is complicated by an LBGTQ+ parade tomorrow – apparently it is a big deal, lots of folks in town and those who want to go to the Copacabana are out of luck. Our tour will go to the mountain that Christ the Redeemer sits upon and to Sugar Loaf Mountain. But it will start at 7 AM tomorrow and the rain chance is 70%. So far, we have been absolutely blest with fine weather and we are not complaining.
At 2:30 we ventured forth into Rio. We walked along the quay toward the Maua square and the Museum of Tomorrow (MoT). On the way we saw street musicians – a brass band playing and singing and dancing – nice show. Paul took a 1-minute video (unposted until good Internet is found). We walked by a street market where Shirley purchased some goodies for the little girls.

We decided to go into the MoT and discovered that if one is over 60, it is free. Very cool. There are two floors to the building; the first holding the temporary exhibit and the second holding the permanent exhibit. The temporary exhibit consisted of many black and white photos of the Amazon region by Sebastiao Salgado (look him up) with a few explanatory displays. Unfortunately, they were all in Brazilian Portuguese. The power of the pictures spoke volumes however and so we were all quite moved by the beauty and struggle of the Amazon people, fauna and flora.

We exited through the gift shop, negotiating the conversion of the Brazilian Real to the US Dollar (~ 5:1) and Bob got some goodies for the kids. We then toured around the outside of the museum, saw the reflecting pool, scored a few new species with the SEEK app, and enjoyed great views of the harbor.

Back on the ship we ate a nice dinner of sushi, cod, crab, shrimp and gelato. Then to the star theater where a Samba group put on an very energetic and professional show of amazing dancing (and a bit of the Brazilian Martial Art, Capoeira). The costumes were brilliant!
